AI assistant for field technicians

A camera-assisted assistant for technicians who work on industrial engines and generator sets. The technician points their phone camera at the job; the assistant verifies the current step of the repair procedure and explains the next one.

Early stage. This product is in development; we are working on the first demo. There is no released app, customer or pilot installation yet.

In three steps

The camera sees, the assistant verifies
the step and explains the next.

  1. The camera sees

The technician’s phone sends images of the part being worked on. Later we aim to do the same with smart glasses, hands-free.

  2. AI verifies the step

The AI checks whether the current step of the procedure was done correctly: gasket placement, tightening sequence and torque, for example.

  3. It explains the next step

If the step is complete, it explains the next one; if not, it says what needs to be corrected.

One procedure

Cylinder head removal and installation
on a gas engine.

We are building the first demo around a single procedure: removing and reinstalling a cylinder head on a gas engine. Its steps are visually clear and a sequence mistake is costly, which makes it a good place to start.

Field experience

Designed by someone who has done this work in the field.

Gökhan Çalkap, the founder of Calkap Labs, worked for 3.5 years as a field service technician on diesel and gas generator sets.

How we design it

The technician has the final say.

  • The assistant is a decision-support tool; the technician does the work and signs it off.
  • Safety-critical steps are never left to the camera alone; they require the technician’s confirmation.
